Ever since I was a kid, I was fascinated by the 1950’s. The music, the fashion and more importantly; the hairstyles. My first exposure to it was my grandad- a true Teddy Boy, who treated his hair with the utmost respect, never a hair out of place and always a comb in the top pocket.
Every Sunday we would drive along the seafront, windows down, listening to the vibrant music of his era. From Elvis to Sam Cooke, right through to the Beach Boys. Even back then, at that young age, I knew I wanted something that would capture these moments forever... more than a photograph and something that would allow others to be a part of it.
My obsession from then on only grew and the next turning point came when I sat for the first time with my family and watched the movie ‘Grease’. WOW! Now it was everything. The Diners, the cars, even the hot dogs in a basket had me hooked! But all of it came second to the hair.
For me the 1950’s was the birth of youth culture, the first era when expression became acceptable, and what better way to say something than with your hairstyle.
My life has taken me on a journey and in many directions, but my dream has never gone away and now I feel I’m ready to create Doo Ron Ron’s.
Doo Ron Ron’s is a community Barber shop where kids, teens, adults and grandparents go to get their hair cut and so much more. My shop will have a feeling like no other. It will lean towards the past, but more importantly create a new future.
